Last night’s inaugural WKVIdol competition at the Starke County Fair featured 11 quality performances from youngsters in three age groups. ReAnnen Cooper, 8, from Hamlet captured top honors in the ages 7 to 10 category. Victoria Horne, 13, of Hanna, won in the 11 to 14 age group. Hanna Clark, 16, of Koontz Lake took home the trophy in the 15 to 18 class. Knox Band Director Craige Phipps WKVI’s Nathan Welter and Mary Perren were the judges, and morning show host Tom Berg served as master of ceremonies. Region DJ’s provided the sound, and the trophies and participant medals came from Sports Unlimited in Knox.
It’s finally here! The Starke County 4-H starts today and there’s an array of activities for people of all ages to engage in! The opening ceremonies are at 6:15 p.m in the show arena. Continue reading
Contestants in the 7-10 category will be Emma Gillard, ReAnnen Cooper, and Emma Hensley. The 11-14 age group will include Tatum Milhiser, Victgoria Horne, and Nathan Jolly. In the 15-18 age group, Hannah Clark, Brianne Barden, Margaret Nagai, Katie Nagai, and Kenzie McDaniel will compete.

WKVI is sponsoring a singing competition for youngsters during the Starke County Fair. WKVIdol will take place Monday, July 14 at 8 p.m. at the fairgrounds. The competition will be divided into three age groups: ages 7-10, 11-14 and 15-18. Each age group will have a maximum of four contestants. The first step for would-be contestants is to submit a 1 minute singing demo with your name, address, email and telephone number. You can drop it off at the station on a compact disc or other digital media file or email an mp3 to email@example.com. Please list the top three family-friendly songs you would like to perform. Duplicate songs will not be allowed, so the sooner you submit your demo, the greater your chances of getting to sing your favorite song for the competition. Continue reading
