The Pulaski County Commissioners have agreed to uphold a demolition order given to a downtown Winamac building.
A hearing was held during Tuesday night’s Commissioner’s meeting for the property, located in the 200 block of West Main Street. The facility is home to a tax service company, but according to County Building Inspector Dave Dare, it has been neglected over the years.

A mobile home was heavily damaged following a Thursday morning fire in Pulaski County.
The Winamac Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call around 5:22 a.m. in the area of 3200 North and 300 West in Ripley. Once on scene, firefighters noticed the south end of the mobile home was engulfed.

Flooding along the Tippecanoe River has left the ground saturated in the Winamac Town Park.
According to Town Manager Brad Zellers, however, there’s not much the Town can do to help with the situation. As things stand, water from the river is coming into the back of the park.

The Winamac Town Council plans to further discussions on a group that they say needs better communication.
During tonight’s meeting officials with Winamac Greenspace, otherwise known as the Town’s Tree Commission, will be meeting with the Town Council to plan how to better communication with the Town and a conservation and development group.
The Winamac Town Council will be working to get to organizations to cooperate.
A meeting was called for Tuesday morning to discuss future projects for Winamac Greenspace. The group is formerly known as the Tree Commission. The group is supposed to work with Arrowhead Country Resource Conservation and Development.
The last of the necessary surveys has been received to qualify for grant funds.
The Town of Winamac has expressed interest in exploring for additional water resources. Currently, there are two wellheads in the same water source that Winamac pulls from to bring water to local homes. Concerns over safety and contamination, however, have prompted the town to solicit funds to explore for a new source of water.

The Town of Winamac has nearly completed a new addition to the town park.
During Monday night’s Winamac Town Council meeting, updates on the fencing for a new dog park were received. The dog park was suggested due to conflicting schedules between the 4-H club and youth baseball and softball teams who were using the fields for practice.

The Town of Winamac could soon help prevent resident’s energy prices from spiking with the seasons.
During last night’s Winamac Town Council meeting, a special meeting was considered for discussions on a possible solar energy park. The Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA) has expressed interest in developing the solar park.
Town Council member Richard Denney says the project may take a while.
“It’s not going to happen in 2015 and more than likely it won’t happen in 2016,” says Denney. “This year’s construction is underway for three units and next year’s is pretty much solid.”
IMPA currently has three solar parks in Frankton, Rensellaer, and Richton.
Its 59 “member communities” have been asked to help develop the solar parks. In order for any development to take place, however, 20 acres of land would need to be found for sale. The Town of Winamac is currently eyeing space at the Industrial Park, north of the County Home.
Once land is secured, IMPA staff would handle development, construction, fencing, and mowing.
Town Manager Brad Zellers says the Town of Winamac would have a small role to play in the upkeep.
“The only thing we have to do: they would like our crew once or twice per week to drive through and see if the green light is on or if the red light is on,” says Zellers. “If the red light is one, then there’s a problem. Call them.”
Solar parks are incentivized due to a spike in energy demand during the summer months. By implementing solar energy, it is anticipated energy peaks would largely be eliminated for consumers.
A presenter from the Indiana Municipal Power Agency will be invited to give the Winamac Town Council more information.
A vehicle headlight ultimately led to the arrest of a Winamac resident on drug charges.
According to a press release, Pulaski County Police were on patrol in the area of Narrow and Franklin Streets in Winamac when they noticed the vehicle in question. Authorities made a note that occupants of the vehicle were behaving nervously.

Income surveys continue to be gathered in Winamac.
The Town has decided to apply for grant funds to help fund for the exploration of a water well in the area. Part of the OCRA grant is meeting income requirements. Surveys with two questions were sent out to several Winamac residents to complete the task.

A new Town website is anticipated to launch this week. The websites’ development was started in October of 2014. The company developing the site has spent the last several months gathering information from the Town to better supply residents with proper information.
