The Indiana Department of Transportation is improving traffic signals at several intersections along U.S. 30 and U.S. 6 in Lake and Porter Counties. A total of 11 lights will be upgraded to feature flashing yellow arrows. They allow left-turning traffic to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians and turn when a suitable gap is available. INDOT officials say this type of signal improves intersection efficiency by using cross-traffic gaps to allow more left turns. Continue reading
U.S. 6 is closed today in LaPorte County between State Road 39 and U.S. 421 for a culvert replacement. INDOT advises the work will take a day, weather permitting. The road should be open again tomorrow. Continue reading
Motorists who take State Road 23 through Walkerton will need to find a new route for the next few days. INDOT is closing the road between U.S. 30 and U.S. 6 to perform chip and fog sealing. The process preserves the road surface. INDOT officials stress the work is dependent on dry weather and may be delayed if conditions are not ideal. Southbound motorists can take U.S. 6 south to U.S. 35 and east to U.S. 30 to get around the closure. Northbound motorists can use the opposite route. Continue reading
Marshall County motorists should practice caution when traveling on U.S. 6 in the coming days. Beginning Monday, July 21 through the end of the day on Tuesday, July 22 crews will perform chip and fog seal operations to preserve the road surface between the east junction and west junction of State Road 106 near Bremen. Drivers wishing to travel either eastbound or westbound on U.S. 6 should take State Road 106 until it meets back with U.S. 6.
The road has been closed since early June so crews could tear out the old roadway and rebuild a new roadway. Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Matt Deitchley said this construction was necessary for the new U.S. 31 interchange for U.S. 6.
