Wanted East Chicago Man Arrested during LaPorte County Traffic Stop

A wanted East Chicago man was allegedly found driving in LaPorte County with a suspended license in a car without a license plate. Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped the vehicle just after midnight Thursday at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Fail Road. The driver allegedly couldn’t produce any identification, and the name and date of birth he gave couldn’t be confirmed through a computer check.

Lane Restrictions Start Tomorrow on U.S. 20, U.S. 30

Lane restrictions start tomorrow on U.S. 30 in Porter County and U.S. 20 in LaPorte County. INDOT says U.S. 30 will down to one lane in each direction east of Valparaiso, between Porter County Roads 400 and 450 East for “an underground infrastructure rebuild project.” That’s expected to last through this Friday, but shoulder closures may continue through October 16.

INDOT Projects to Impact Travel in LaPorte, Porter Counties

A number of road projects may have motorists adjusting their routes in the coming weeks. In LaPorte County, U.S. 6 will be closed between U.S. 35 and State Road 39 starting Monday until mid-August. INDOT says one lane in each direction will remain open for local traffic only. Through traffic is asked to use U.S. 35, U.S. 30, and State Road 39 as a detour.

South Bend Man Arrested following LaPorte County Traffic Stop

A South Bend man faces multiple charges after allegedly driving 100 miles per hour without a license with a loaded firearm in the vehicle. LaPorte County Police say they pulled over a vehicle driven by Ankoma H. Kirk, 20, near U.S. 20 and County Road 350 East, just before 10:00 p.m. Thursday. During the traffic stop, officers say they found a loaded firearm in the passenger compartment.

Dyer Man Arrested following Head-On U.S. 20 Crash that Left Two Injured

Two people were hurt and a man was arrested after a head-on crash on U.S. 20 in LaPorte County. Sheriff’s deputies say it happened around 6:00 p.m. Thursday. Investigators believe a passenger vehicle was stopped in a westbound lane waiting to turn left on County Road 250 East. A pickup truck apparently tried to go around it by going left of center and crashed head-on into an eastbound passenger vehicle.
