The Indiana Department of Transportation is teaming up with volunteers to clean up the state’s roadsides in the agency’s annual Trash Bash event.
The event aims at clearing trash and debris from the roadsides of busy highways and interstates to improve the environment and lessen litter eyesores.
INDOT’s Trash Bash Underway
With the spring season finally upon us, cleaning of our highways and byways will be getting underway.
INDOT’s annual Trash Bash will be running throughout this month and coincides with National Earth Day to aid in raising awareness of litter. Over 20,000 bags of trash were collected by INDOT maintenance crews, Indiana Department of Correction offender crews, and Adopt-A-Highway volunteers last year.
INDOT Looks for Adopt-a-Highway Groups
The state Department of Transportation is asking Adopt-A-Highway groups to help in the annual spring cleanup of Indiana’s highways.
INDOT and Adopt-A-Highway groups are planning a statewide effort to clean up Indiana’s highways during Trash Bash 2012. The event runs from April 7 through April 22.
Westville Correction Facility Inmates Picking up Garbage in Starke County
Offenders serving time at the Westville Correctional Facility have been in Starke County since April 4th collecting garbage. The six man crew is taking part in the statewide Trash Bash. As of Friday, the offenders had picked up 113 bags of garbage on 19 miles of roadway. The offenders are all minimum security individuals.
