Starke County Commissioners Approve CenturyLink Agreement for New Jail

The county commissioners Monday approved an agreement for $1,431 for one-time upgrades and a monthly fee of $5.75 for the next three years. Starke County Sheriff’s Department Adds Crime Mapping to County Website

Starke County Sheriff's Department BadgeVisitors to the Starke County government website now have access to information about incidents reported to the sheriff’s department. County information technology director Joe Short recently added the Crime Mapper tool to the existing Starke County GIS on the website. Visitors can click the crime button and view calls from the last seven or 30 days or can search a customized date range.

Sheriff Bill Dulin hopes sharing this information will raise awareness of the types of incidents his department deals with on a daily basis. Continue reading

Recount Commission Reaffirms Vote Totals

The three-member commission charged with reviewing vote totals in two close Starke County races found no discrepancies in either contest. The certificate they will file with the Starke County Clerk’s office finds Democrat Pamela Stalbaum beat Republican Don White by two votes in the fourth district county council race. By the numbers, Stalbaum got 707 votes to White’s 705 for the seat currently held by Marvin McLaughlin. Continue reading

Starke County Commissioners Approve Software Agreements

  
 

The Starke County Commissioners are looking into the possibility of saving some money on non-election years through the Microvote company. The county currently pays Microvote $9500 per year for their election equipment and services, even on years when the equipment is not used. Commissioner Kent Danford asked IT Director Joe Short to look into whether or not they can pay for that service only on election years to help save a bit of coin. Continue reading

Commissioners Approve Car for Starke County IT Director

Starke County IT Director Joe Short will soon have a county-owned vehicle to use in the course of his job duties. His request for one of the Dodge Chargers the Starke County Sheriff’s Office is getting ready to replace was approved by the commissioners. They note Short is on-call 24/7 to keep computers and other equipment running for the jail and other departments within the county.

Pulaski County Joins Starke in Sharing GIS Information

Pulaski County is right on the heels of Starke County in approving an agreement with the state to share its GIS information in return for $2000 to fund the GIS agreement with WTH Technology. According to Starke County IT Director Joe Short, the GIS information to be shared with the state contains no personal information, only geographic data.

The cost of the GIS agreement is only $1500, leaving $500 left over to be spent on the GIS system however the counties see fit. Currently, 86 counties throughout Indiana participate in the program, and Starke and Pulaski Counties are now a part of the program.
