Oregon-Davis, Knox High Schools to Stage Mock Crashes

 

 

As prom season approaches, local high schools are once again warning students of the dangers of drunk and distracted driving. The Oregon-Davis SADD chapter is holding its annual mock crash today for high school juniors and seniors. Fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and a helicopter are all expected to be on the Oregon-Davis campus, as part of the presentation.

Community Foundation of Pulaski County 2018 Lilly Endowment Scholarship Recipient Announced

Winamac Community High School Senior Peyton Newman has been named the Community Foundation of Pulaski County 2018 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.

Peyton is the daughter of Arthur and Melissa Newman. She has been involved in a plethora of school activities including student council, FFA, Sunshine Society, SADD, Key Club and drama. She is also active in golf and cheerleading.

Outside of school, Peyton has been a member of 4-H for 9 years. She is also a 5-year Junior Leader member and has volunteered as a camp counselor, a fair board representative and council representative. Continue reading

SADD Students Stage Successful Mock Crash

Officials with the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation hope a recently staged mock crash will prevent a real-life tragedy from occurring.

The Students Against Destructive Decisions group enlisted the help of the Winamac Fire and Police Departments, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, EMS, REACT and Coroner, Indiana State Police and Samaritan Helicopter. Their goal was to underscore the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and driving while distracted. Continue reading

Celebrate My Drive The Knox Community School Corporation is in the running to win cash prizes and a concert by The Band Perry. The school is taking part in the Celebrate My Drive safety campaign. Oregon-Davis SADD Students Recognize Don’t Text and Drive Awareness Week

The Oregon-Davis organization, Students Against Destructive Decisions, or SADD, are raising awareness about the dangers are texting and driving this week.

The school resource officers are helping the students in learning the dangers of texting and driving. The officers have a course for the kids to drive to show what impairment is caused when a person texts and drives at the same time. Students will have to maneuver a golf cart through cones while texting to complete the course.
