Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department officers arrested two people, Friday, May 13th, on methamphetamine related charges.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. ET, officers observed a vehicle pull up to a home near Beardstown on U.S. 35. Officers knew that the occupant of the home is in the nursing home and so they stopped and watched the occupants in the vehicle from a distance. After a while, the officers pulled into the driveway to check their story and one occupant fled into a building. At that time, Avery A. Mullins, 28, of Grovertown and Otis T. Young, 30, of Plymouth, were taken into custody. A wanted persons check found that both subjects were wanted on outstanding warrants in Marshall County.
This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators week and we have been hearing from dispatchers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department. Today, Sue Fox, Chief Dispatcher at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, tells us about the dispatchers there.
“We have ten dispatchers and they are all EMD certified for Emergency Medical Dispatching and they will take care of all pre-arrival instructions for a person who calls in needing assistance from 9-1-1,” explained Sue Fox. “We also receive quite a bit of paperwork from the court, whether it be warrants or civil papers, and we process those papers and distribute them to the proper locations.”
An Idaville, Indiana man was arrested after a two day manhunt in Pulaski County.
On Monday, March 28th at 10:09 p.m. ET, Pulaski County Deputy Ryan Austin stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of County Roads 700 West and County Road 500 South. The passenger immediately exited and fled on foot into the darkness. The driver, Jacqueline S. Mayhill, 31, of Monticello, was taken into custody and arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine. The passenger was identified as Charles Douglas Warren, age 47, of Idaville, and was not immediately captured. A manhunt using K-9s was eventually called off at 1:30 a.m.
Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer told WKVI that the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department has had many calls concerning missing people; specifically those with Alzheimers, Dementia and Autism. The Sheriff would like to start a registry and have individual profiles on file at the Sheriff’s Department so if your loved one is missing, he/she can be located easily.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has announced that 10 commanders are now in place to continue development of the regional emergency response task forces evolving into a statewide network of emergency support.
Ron Patrick, Chief Deputy of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, has been named as the Task Force Commander for District 2. The commanders are responsible for overseeing daily administrative operations, and recruiting resources to establish and expand the capabilities of the task force they oversee.
A Winamac man was arrested, Thursday, February 3rd, on preliminary charges of Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department log, an unidentified male complainant called police to report that Glen Sommers was at his home and allegedly tried to stab him. The victim defended himself and was cut on the underside of his thumb. Sommers left the residence and it took the victim 20 minutes to call police because his phone lines were reportedly cut and he could not call out. Sommers also allegedly stole the complainant’s guitar.
Sommers is currently in the Pulaski County Jail.

Pulaski County Officers elected into office in the General Election were sworn into office Tuesday afternoon. Officers were sworn in by Pulaski Circuit Court Judge Michael Shurn and Superior Court Judge Patrick Blankenship.
Starke United Executive Director, Edie Hall, told WKVI that the WKVI-Starke United Auction netted $7,669.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a theft from the Monterey Elementary School. The incident occurred Thanksgiving weekend, November 28th or 29th.
According to Detective Scott Taylor, some unknown person(s) broke into the Monterey Elementary School and stole 11 iPod touch devices and 2 laptop computers. The items were property of the Monterey Elementary School. The thieves did minimal damage when they broke into the building but took over $5,000 in electronics from the school.
