Click It Or Ticket Blitz To Continue Through June 3

Several police agencies in the state, including the Starke County Traffic Safety Partnership and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, are participating in the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement blitz until June 3.

Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer says his department will be out in full force.

“Traditionally, Memorial Day weekend is a busy weekend for motorists,” explained Gayer. “It is a law in Indiana to wear your seat belt. The officers get paid by the federal government on their days off to go out and try to enforce the seat belt law more rigorously than they would normally do during the normal course of their duties just because it is a busy holiday.”

Memorial Service To Be Held Commemorating Fallen Pulaski County Officers

A memorial service to commemorate the lives of the three fallen officers in the line of duty while on staff at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department will be held Tuesday, May 29th, at Noon ET in front of the Sheriff’s Department. Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer says the memorial service is an annual event.

“Each year we get the whole department together, all 42 of us, and we stand in front of the Sheriff’s Office and I conduct a service and we have the traditional Taps and a 21-gun salute,” said Gayer. “We then have lunch for the members here at the Sheriff’s Department and the families of the slain officers.”

Indiana Fallen Officer Blood Drive To Take Place May 30

The staff at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department encourages you to participate in the Indiana Fallen Officer Blood Drive on Wednesday, May 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Winamac.

The Indiana Fallen Officer Blood Drive campaign was founded by Janice Starnes whose husband, Sgt. Daniel Starnes, was killed in the line of duty in 2001. She says this blood drive ensures that our fallen officers are not forgotten and it raises awareness of the dangers officers face every day and the need for blood.

Winamac Man Arrested on Domestic Battery Charges

A Winamac man was arrested Sunday after a report of domestic abuse.

37-year-old Gregory Billingsley allegedly battered his wife. Police reportedly found that she had bruising around her left eye and her upper lip was swollen with a laceration.  Pulaski County officers also noted in the police report that her nose appeared to be broken. She complained of pain to the back of her head and neck.

Winamac Man Accused of Theft from Ace Hardware

A Winamac man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stole items from Ace Hardware in Winamac.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department was advised of a shoplifter in the store. The officer was told by a female employee that the suspect was believed to have been involved in a prior theft incident. Store employees said Duane Altman walked out of the store with three wrenches in his hand.

Monterey Man Arrested for Theft of Scrap Metal

A Monterey man was arrested Tuesday after the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department received a report of stolen scrap metal.

Larry Leohmer told police that he had a scrap pile of metal near the old grain elevator in Monterey and he said on Monday night, he observed a 375 gallon fuel tank, an old washer and a metal threader on the scrap pile. Those items were missing Tuesday and he had not given permission to anyone to remove those items. He later saw a man driving a red pickup truck with those items in the back.

Two Arrested after Alleged Fight

Officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department arrested two Wheatfield residents after an alleged fight on Monday.

39-year-old Tammy Grigsby allegedly pulled the female victim from a car while the vehicle was stopped at a stop sign at 300 North and 1400 West in Medaryville. The victim told police that Grigsby had reportedly beat her head against the car. Grigsby and Harrison Lovely, 36, were reportedly attempting to leave the scene when police arrived. The pair were ordered to stop and they were taken into custody. Prescription medication was located in Lovely’s possession and the pills were in a bottle with his name on it. A broken pill was found in Grigsby’s possession. They were both reportedly intoxicated.

Two Winamac Residents Arrested on Drug Charges

Two Winamac residents were arrested on drug charges on Sunday after police served an arrest warrant on a subject.

Officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department approached the house and asked Gina Napier who all was in the house. She said that she and her children were in the house. When police asked the whereabouts of Steven Neeley, she reportedly said she didn’t know where he was. Police saw him sitting on a bed in the home and ordered him out of the house as he had an active arrest warrant. He was taken into custody.

North Judson Man Arrested after Prescription Drugs are Found in His Possession

A North Judson man was arrested on April 12th after police found he was consealing prescription medication.

Kevin Glisic was pulled over in the North Judson area for an infraction violation and during the traffic stop, the officer did not find any contraband in his vehicle. After Glisic was released from the traffic stop, police reportedly received information that he was consealing medication in his pants. Pulaski County police learned that he was going to a residence in the Medaryville area and on the way there, officers found the Glisic’s vehicle at a gas station. Glisic allegedly saw law enforcement in the area and reportedly started acting suspiciously.  The officer asked Glisic if he could speak with him outside and he agreed saying that he had nothing in his car.

Winamac Town Park Crews Cleaning up after Vandalism Incident

The Winamac Town Board heard from Park Superintendent Rick Dilts who reported that the clean-up at the Town Park is almost complete. A suspected juvenile printed graffiti on the park property and the graffiti included harsh words against a certain student. A vandalism report was made with the Winamac Police Department and if anyone knows anything about this incident, call the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department at 946-6655.

Zachary Dix Arrested after Alleged Fight in Francesville

A Francesville man was arrested after striking a 15-year-old in the face, causing a half-inch laceration to the upper lip of the juvenile which required six stitches to close. 19-year-old Zachary D. Dix was arrested and faces charges of Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury as a Class C felony.

Officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 300 block of North Bill Street in Francesville in response to a physical altercation. When they arrived on the scene, deputies were told that Zachary Dix, had allegedly struck the victim in the face while the two were in the front yard of the residence. The juvenile reportedly said that attack knocked him unconscious and left him in a great deal of pain.

Winamac Man Arrested After Striking Pole

A Winamac man was arrested after his Jeep struck a telephone pole and disrupting power in the area of 125 E. near 250 N. in Pulaski County. According to the incident report, an officer from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the area and found a silver Jeep SUV in a field with heavy front-end damage, and a telephone pole leaning over the roadway.

Winamac Husband and Wife Jailed After Five-Mile Pursuit

A high-speed chase that lasted over five miles on Saturday night came to a dangerous conclusion when the driver lost control on a gravel road and struck a tree.

An officer with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of County Road 475 South and U.S. 35, but instead of stopping, the driver, Eric Gudas of Winamac, sped up and tried to evade police. Gudas ran several stop signs during the high-speed chase and even threw several empty beer cans out the window of the vehicle before turning onto a gravel road where he lost control and struck a tree.

Two Arrested in Pulaski County on Marijuana, Public Intoxication Charges

Two people were arrested on Saturday after a reckless driving incident was called into the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.

A caller said a person was driving a vehicle through the grass at the Good Oil Company and now they’re in the parking lot at the Pulaski County YMCA. The reporting officer spoke with one of the passengers, Justin Manning, and deduced that he was impaired. A Portable Breathalizer Test was administered and it reportedly showed that he was under the influence. While the officer was placing Manning in handcuffs, he could smell marijuana. Another passenger, Jesus Maldonado, was also detained as he allegedly had marijuana leaves all over the front of his clothing. A small bag reportedly containing marijuana was found in the center console of the vehicle and also on the floor. A juvenile was also detained at the scene.

Vandalism reported at the Star City West Cemetery

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a vandalism incident at the Star City West Cemetery.

On Wednesday, police met with former Cemetery Trustee, Paul Abbott, who helped the officer locate the affected area. Damage was found to headstones in the south east corner of the cemetery and on the east side of the roadway. Four headstones and bases were knocked over. One of the headstones was broken into many pieces. Police noted that headstone appeared to have been struck with something.

The estimate of damage was not immediately known. Current Cemetery Trustee, Ron Heater, said that he would contact the family members about the damage.

Winamac Man Arrested on Warrant after being Beaten

Officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Winamac man on Friday on an active arrest warrant after he was severely beaten by two suspects.

Dennis Howard was at Pulaski Memorial Hospital when officials notified the police that he was wanted on an active arrest warrant. When questioned, police learned that Howard was at a home on 550 N. and two North Judson men allegedly beat him with their fists and shovels and he was kicked. He had fled from officers earlier in the day and ended up at 6735 W. 550 N. It was then he was reportedly beaten. He had sustained injuries all over his body.

Medaryville Man Arrested on Drug Charges after Traffic Stop

A Medaryville man was arrested Saturday after a traffic stop.

The Pulaski County deputy saw the Shane Born leave a Medaryville gas station and followed his vehicle for a while. The officer noticed that Born’s actions were suspicious and it appeared that Born was trying to avoid him. He had driven into two different driveways as the officer was following him.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and when the officer approached the vehicle, Born reportedly told him that he didn’t have a license and he was an habitual traffic violator. When Born’s information was run through dispatch, the officer learned that he was an habitual traffic violator for life.

Star City Man Arrested for Reckless Driving

A 19-year-old Star City man was arrested Saturday after he drove his car erratically around a block party.

Rusty J. Steele was reportedly revving his car’s engine and squealing the tires around Market and Pearl Streets in Winamac where a block party was scheduled. Police reportedly saw Steele travel south on Logan Street towards Main Street. When Steele got to Main Street, he reportedly revved his engine again, squealed the tires and turned toward U.S. 35.
