Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputies made fewer arrests in 2019 than in 2018. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county commissioners Monday that deputies made 398 arrests last year, down from 510 the year before.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is transferring ownership of some unneeded equipment. The county commissioners Monday authorized Sheriff Jeff Richwine to sell some heavy-duty police vests.

Firefighters from three departments spent four-and-a-half hours battling a house fire southwest of Winamac Tuesday afternoon. A neighbor called 911 at 3:30 p.m. and told dispatchers the home at 7948 South 475 West was fully engulfed. The Star City Volunteer Fire Department responded and requested tanker support from the Winamac and Buffalo Fire Departments. They ended up filling their trucks at the boat launch in Pulaski in order to more quickly get water to the scene. Pulaski County REACT also assisted by directing traffic. There’s no word yet on a cause. No injuries were reported. The firefighters left the residence at 8 p.m.
An issue with an electrical panel is the cause of a Monday night fire at a Francesville home.
According to Tim Wuethrich, the fire began in the electric panel and traveled up to the second story of the home. Francesville and Medaryville firefighters were on the scene at 6055 S. County Road 1100 W. The Buffalo and Monon Fire Departments also provided manpower and water support while Pulaski County REACT was on scene to set up a warming station so no firefighters suffered from frostbite.
No injuries were reported.
