Summer Cooling Program Begins July 1

  
 

The summer cool program is about to begin.

Community Services of Starke County, Pulaski County Human Services, Inc., and North Central Community Action Agencies, Inc. will accept applications starting July 1. Residents must bring in income information for the past year for each member of the household, a current utility bill, a lease if the home is rented, and a social security card for each household member. New applicants may start calling June 23 to schedule an appointment for July. The program will run through Aug. 15.

Program Scheduled to Inform Pulaski County Veterans of Services Available

 
 

A program to inform all military veterans in Pulaski County about programs and services available to them will be held Friday, May 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET at the VFW Post #1728-1066 on U.S. 35 south in Winamac.

Representatives from the Northwest Indiana Community Action, North Central Action and Pulaski County Human Services, Inc. will inform veterans about assistance programs, older Americans services, transportation, veterans services, employment services, and nutrition services.

Heating Bill Help Available to Pulaski County Residents

Pulaski County Human Services, Inc. has received additional funds to help low income Pulaski County families pay home heating bills. Applications are still being accepted for this season’s Energy Assistance Program.

Those who have already received assistance through this program from November to today will not be able to reapply. Applications will only be accepted for those that will be applying for the first time this heating season.

Many Activities are Scheduled Saturday and Sunday in the Kankakee Valley!

Even though Christmas Eve is a few days off, many children in our area will get some gifts early. The Starke County Abate organization will be handing out toys, clothing and food items to 90 families at the Bass Lake Golf Course on Saturday. “It will be at the Bass Lake Golf Course,” said Abate President, Terry Young. “We have 90 families that will be coming out this year. They were all sent out invitations to come. There are 240 kids and all the families will have a turkey and all kinds of gifts. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also be there.” When it comes to a big heart for children, the 290 members of Abate are in the forefront.
