Oregon-Davis School Board Accepts Donation for FFA and National Honor Society

A couple student organizations at Oregon-Davis Junior/Senior High School got a financial boost this week. Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says the school board accepted a donation from the Oregon-Davis Young Farmers organization. “That donation was $700 to the Oregon-Davis Junior/Senior High School FFA and another $700 to the Oregon-Davis Junior/Senior High School National Honor Society,” Harman says.

Knox High School National Honor Society Honored By School Board

The Knox High School National Honor Society was spotlighted during the school board’s recent meeting. Superintendent A.J. Gappa says the members were involved in a great fundraising effort.

“Dr. Ratliff, the principal at the high school, brought to the board a letter from the Pennies for Patients fundraising effort,” said Gappa. “Our National Honor Society at the high school raised over $1,200 in pennies to support that fund. The whole nation raised over $600,000.”

Members of the Knox Student Council, National Honor Society and dedicated volunteers assembled food baskets, Thursday, at the Community Services of Starke County building for the less fortunate families in Knox. Students and members of the Knox Kiwanis Club will distribute food to those families in Knox.

Oregon-Davis National Honor Society is Collecting Food to Provide Thanksgiving Meals for Needy Families

November 15th-19th is Hunger Awareness week and the Oregon-Davis Jr/Sr High School National Honor Society is sponsoring a food drive to help local food banks. They are asking for food to help provide Thanksgiving meals for needy families and non-perishable items for the local food banks. Canned corn, canned green beans, stuffing mix,  potatoes, sweet potatoes, noodles, boxed crackers, cord bread mix, bread, canned pumpkin, canned cranberries and juice are some of the items needed to help families enjoy their Thanksgiving meals. Monetary donations will be used to purchase a turkey and other perishable items.
