She said even after holding three sign-ups, there were only a couple of people registered and there weren’t any queen candidates at all. With the registration deadline approaching at the end of this month, Henry said organizers are worried the pageant may have to be canceled.

North Judson-San Pierre High School will be hosting royalty this weekend. The annual Mint Festival Pageant will take place in the auditorium on Sunday, June 8 at 6 p.m. Admission for anyone over preschool age is $5. WKVI General Manager Jerry Curtis will be the master of ceremonies. Local contestants will compete in one of the following categories: Mint King & Queen, Jr. Mint King & Queen, Mint Prince and Princess and Little Miss & Little Mister Mint, depending on their age. The winners will ride in the Mint Festival Parade on Sunday, June 15.
The Mint Festival Pageant went off without a hitch, according to committee member Teresa Trout. She said 22 girls and two boys competed in the pageant, which lasted about an hour and drew a crowd of nearly 150 people to the North Judson-San Pierre High School auditorium.
The North Judson Mint Festival pageant is just one day away and Festival Committee Member Teresa Trout said the pageant will feature at least 20 contestants, possibly more. She said the committee is still waiting to receive applications and fundraiser money from six girls, despite the fact that these items were due May 31.
Trout said last year’s pageant queen has been working closely with the committee and held a class on May 18 at the library in North Judson, offering contestants the chance to learn what to expect at the pageant, how to put on their makeup, how to walk, what they should wear, and how they should talk to help them have a better overall pageant experience.
Application distribution dates are approaching for the Mint Festival pageant, and Festival Committee Member Teresa Trout said the committee has been working hard to get the event planning wrapped up. The committee is currently taking applications and have set aside five days this month to distribute applications at the North Judson Public Library and the Starke County Public Library.
Pageant sign-up sheets are available today at the Starke County Public Library from 2 to 4 p.m. The sign-up sheets will also be available at the library in Knox on May 10 from 3 to 5 p.m., and on May 11, sign-ups will take place at the North Judson Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon. On May 13, the North Judson Public Library will once again host sign-ups from 5 to 7 p.m.
