Driver Dies from Injuries in Accident in Marshall County

The driver involved in a Friday night accident on U.S. 31 and 13th Road in Marshall County that claimed the life of a Plymouth man has died from injuries sustained in that accident.

According to an update released by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Austin Webb of Knox passed away on Saturday after being transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend following the two-car accident.

Plymouth Man Loses Life in Car Accident

A Plymouth man died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 31 and 13th Road in Marshall County Friday night.

According to police, 26-year-old Ricky L. Bradley of Plymouth was a passenger in a car driven by 23-year-old Austin Webb of Knox when the Pontiac Grand Am they were traveling in entered the intersection. Webb reportedly failed to yield to the right-of-way of a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 32-year-old Terry Burgess of Elkhart. Police say Burgess’ vehicle hit the passenger side of Webb’s vehicle causing extensive damage.

Three Injured in Two Vehicle Accident

Three people were injured in a two vehicle accident around 8:30 p.m. last night on U.S. 30 just east of the Grovertown Truck Stop.

Starke County police say that a passenger car was northbound on 1100 East, crossed the median, hesitated in the median, and began to proceed into the path of an oncoming semi. The driver of the semi tried to stop and swerved to the right to attempt to avoid a collision, however the driver could not stop. The semi was loaded at the time of the accident.

Five-Year-Old Falls in Pond, Air-Lifted to South Bend

A five-year-old child was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend earlier this afternoon after he was reportedly found unresponsive after falling into a small pond in the North 600 Block of Ind. 23. A witness called 911 and told police that the child had fallen into the pond, and Starke County EMS rushed to the scene where they found the unresponsive child partially in the water.

The Hamlet Fire Department set up a landing zone near the intersection of 600 E and U.S. 30 for Memorial Hospital’s Med-Flight helicopter to land and transport the child to the hospital, where he was being held at last report.

No more information is available at this time, but the incident is still under investigation and WKVI will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

Accident Victim Dies of Injuries

A Knox man who was injured in an early morning accident on Monday, December 5th has died. 43-year-old Thomas Guy passed away on Friday, December 16th in Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Starke County Police responded to a single vehicle accident on December 5th at 4570 South and 100 East. Guy reportedly was traveling on County Road 100 East when he came over a hill and lost control of his vehicle, leaving the roadway and striking a tree. Guy was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to the hospital as a result of injuries sustained the accident. He died of those injuries on Friday.

Prominent Winamac Citizen Passes Away

Beverly Powers, 72, of Winamac, passed away Sunday in Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Beverly, at one time, was in our profession writing first for The Leader and then the Pulaski County Journal. Her column “From My Little Corner of the Room” was a “ must read” of all who read the Journal regularly.  She was involved with scores of organizations and in her lifetime, participated in many worthwhile causes in her community.
