A recent case in the Pulaski County courts led the town government to consider amending some of the language to be more specific. During a special session held Friday afternoon, Town Council members considered an amendment to what Board President Bob Schultz says is their trash ordinance.

Couple Pleads with Pulaski County to Intervene on Library Closure

Pulaski County CourthouseA couple of concerned citizens have requested the help of the Pulaski County Commissioners.

The Medaryville branch of the Pulaski County Public Library is slated to close or, at the very least, operate with limited internet capacity by the end of the year. The location is shutting its door to full services due to a lack of funding and a lack of use by patrons.

Future of Medaryville Library Uncertain

 
 

Low public use and increasing cost averages have prompted the Pulaski County Library Board to consider alternative solutions for the use of its Medaryville branch.

Talks are ongoing to give ownership of the site to the Town of Medaryville. The Library board has presented an offer to the Town, but no decisions have been made.

Artifacts Found in Old Pulaski County Building during Demolition

  
 

A demolition order has been moving forward on a property next to the old hotel in Medaryville and Brian Capouch  told the Pulaski County Commissioners this week that they found some historic items in the old floors in the building.

“Underneath the floors, which they had put in in 1910, we found big, thick stacks of newspapers,” told Capuch. “I have a story here, from a Chicago paper, is the notice that Mr. Comiskey is about to build a new ballpark for the Sox. This, for me, was way more valuable, it’s a letter. The old man who had the hotel was ill and this was a letter that he got from a drugist from Royal Center – which was spelled C-e-n-t-r-e at the time, as a receipt for 50 bushels of corn he bought for 46 cents a bushel.

National Weather Service Confirms Pulaski County Tornado

National Weather ServiceThe National Weather Service confirms a tornado struck Pulaski County on Sunday. An EF-1 tornado touched down just south of U.S. 421 and Delaware Street in Medaryville at 3:03 p.m. and lifted 10 minutes later about 2.5 miles northeast of Denham. The funnel cloud’s path width is estimated at 100 yards, with a length of 13 miles. The storm’s maximum wind speed is estimated at 110 miles per hour. The storm was one of at least 15 that hit the Hoosier State on Sunday.

Town Conventions to be held in Winamac, Medaryville and Francesville

Town Conventions will be held in Winamac, Francesville and Medaryville.

A Town Convention will be held in Winamac on Thursday, August 18th at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Winamac High School Auditorium. A vote there will determine a single Republican candidate for the position of Town Clerk-Treasurer. Republicans Christina L. (Shorter) Hoffa and Melanie A. (Parish) Berger have filed and one them will go onto the General Election to face Democrat David Weber.

Candidate Filing Deadline Approaches for Municipal Election

Potential candidates wanting to file for a Clerk-Treasurer or Town Board position in the towns of North Judson, Hamlet, Winamac, Monterey, Francesville or Medaryville have until Monday, August 1st at Noon to file.

So far, the towns of Hamlet, Winamac, Francesville and Medaryville will be conducting Town Conventions. A Town Convention is held when there is competition between candidates in the same political party for any town office. In the Town of Hamlet, there is a race on the Republican ticket for Clerk-Treasurer and two Town Council seats are contested on the Democrat ticket. In Winamac, there is a race for Clerk-Treasurer on the Republican ticket. In Francesville, there are four people seeking a seat on the Town Council and only three seats are available so one candidate will be eliminated in that Town Convention. In Medaryville, four Democrats filed for a seat on the Town Council and a Town Convention will determine the candidate for that party for the General Election.

Pulaki County Clerk Receives New Election Filings

Pulaski County Clerk, Tasha Foerg, has received filings for the fall election in her office.

Two candidates will be vying for Winamac Town Clerk-Treasurer.  Republicans Melanie Parish-Berger and Christina Hoffa have both filed.  One candidate has filed for the Winamac Town Board and that is Republican John Richard Denney.

Democrat Linda McCune filed for Monterey Clerk-Treasurer and Democrat Christine M. Fox filed for a seat on the Monterey Town Board.
