Hamlet Juvenile Charged in LaPorte County

 
 

A teenage boy from Hamlet was cited for a curfew violation early Wednesday morning by LaPorte Police.

They responded just after 3 a.m. to a report of suspicious activity at vacant home in the 1600 block of Stone Lake Drive. A witness told police a black vehicle with several young people in it had just left the area, but others were still nearby. Officers searched the adjacent wooded area, according to a news release, and found a bottle of cola and a bottle of alcohol. They also reportedly saw several juveniles walking nearby and found three 17-year-old boys and a 20-year-old woman hiding behind a shed in the back yard of a home in the 1500 block of Weller Avenue.

Police Cite Drunk Girlfriend Who Torched Boyfriend’s Clothes

 

 
 

LaPorte Police cited a woman for an open burning ordinance violation Wednesday night after she reportedly torched clothes belonging to her boyfriend on the front lawn of a Division Street home. Officers were called to 905 ½ Division Street around 10:30 p.m. and found the boyfriend sitting on the porch. He told the officers his girlfriend got mad, threw his clothes out and set them on fire. The officers let him gather his things and leave. The police report indicates the woman appeared intoxicated, started yelling about her boyfriend and told them she burned his clothes. In addition to the citation, officers ordered her to put the fire out.

 

LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office Investigating Child Neglect

 
 

The LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office may file child neglect charges against three adults after a 12-month old was reportedly seen wandering outside the Country Acres Apartments Tuesday wearing only a diaper. When officers from the LaPorte Police Department arrived, they found the child’s father holding the boy. The man told the officers he came to the apartment the night before to visit a female friend. A second woman was also there, according to a news release from the LaPorte Police Department. The adults drank together, and all three grownups and their four respective children spent the night. Child Says Suspicious Men Tried to Lure Her Into Pickup Truck

  
 

Police in LaPorte are on the lookout for an older red truck with a black bed cap after a passenger in a vehicle matching that description reportedly tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into the vehicle. The child told police she was walking her dog around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on Bosserman Street near Oberreich Street when the truck pulled up. She said the passenger claimed he knew her mother and encouraged her to get into the vehicle. The girl told the man she did not know him, according to the police report, but he continued to urge her to come with him. She refused, walked back to her grandmother’s nearby house and told officers she saw the truck leave the area. The suspect is described as an older white man with gray and brown curly hair and a beard. LaPorte Man Faces Multiple Charges After Early Morning Break-In

Wade FletcherA LaPorte man who reportedly entered an apartment behind a liquor store after banging on the doors of several nearby businesses early Friday morning faces two felony charges. Officers responded to the Bottle Shop Too at 1212 Lincolnway around 12:30 Friday morning to investigate a report of a drunk man knocking on the door of the closed store. They found a rear door leading to an upstairs apartment standing open. When they stepped inside the door, a 15-year-old boy ran down the stairs yelling that there was a man in his apartment. The officers reportedly found Wade A. Fletcher, 21, wandering around in the kitchen. The boy told the police he was home alone asleep and was awakened by the sound of somebody talking. He turned and saw Fletcher walking toward him. According to the arrest report, Fletcher grabbed him by his shirt and threatened to knock him out then let go of him and walked toward the kitchen. Police say Fletcher was seen causing problems at Lucky’s Bar earlier and was also banging on the doors of the nearby Wendy’s. He faces residential entry and possession of a schedule II controlled substance charges.

 

LaPorte Police Investigating Arson

 
 

A fire last Thursday in LaPorte was deliberately set, according to investigators. LaPorte Police and Fire were called to 325 Rockwood Street at 4:38 p.m. on April 24. No injuries were reported, but the exterior of the home was damaged and the interior was filled with smoke. Investigators determined two large trash cans outside the house had been set on fire. LaPorte Police Arrest Hamlet Man on Drug Charges

A Hamlet man faces multiple drug charges in LaPorte after his arrest following a Monday morning traffic stop.

Officers from the LaPorte Police Department got a tip that a man in a white car in the 400 block of G Street was possibly using drugs. They responded at 8:41 a.m. and saw a white Pontiac Grand Am leaving the area. The car pulled across 4th Street in front of a vehicle that was northbound on I Street and nearly caused an accident, according to the police report.

LaPorte Police Respond to Overdose in Restaurant Parking Lot

 
 

A LaPorte man may face criminal charges after reportedly passing out in the front seat of his car in a restaurant parking lot after apparently overdosing. The police report indicates he had a metal spoon in his lap when first responders arrived at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Pine Lake Avenue. When officers from the LaPorte Police Department got there, he was reportedly conscious but unable to walk without assistance and was sweating heavily. The police report indicates he admitted to ingesting heroin before emergency personnel arrived. Police reportedly found several items of drug paraphernalia inside his car, which was seized as evidence. He was taking by ambulance to IU Health LaPorte Hospital. The LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office is considering charges.

LaPorte Police Investigating Counterfeit Checks

 
 
The LaPorte Police Department is investigating two separate attempts to cash counterfeit checks at the LaPorte Community Federal Credit Union. An official there told police the credit union got a check in the mail from a casino for one of their customers in May of 2013. The check was for $67,000. It was made out to the credit union but was supposed to be deposited in the customer’s account, according to the police report. When credit union officials asked the customer about the check, she told them it was from her retirement fund at the casino. They later found out the check was counterfeit.

CPS Called After Cops Find Naked Toddler on LaPorte Roof

 
 

A LaPorte family is under investigation by Child Protective Services after police there responded to a report of a naked baby on the roof of a home in the 300 block of East Lincolnway around 6:30 Tuesday evening. The child’s father reportedly told LaPorte Police officers that his two-year-old daughter had been on the roof after her siblings opened a second-story window. He was watching all six of his children while his wife was at work, according to the police report. Officers reportedly found unsanitary living conditions and structure hazards inside the home. City Code Enforcement was also notified.

LaPorte Man Charged With Murder in 1993 Cold Case

  
 

Authorities in LaPorte County have made an arrest in homicide that occurred more than 20 years ago. Jason L. Tibbs, 38, of LaPorte, was arrested this morning by officers from the Indiana State Police and LaPorte Police Department. He ‘s charged with murdering Rayna Rison, who was 16 at the time of her death. She was last seen alive on March 26,1993. Her father reported her missing when she didn’t come home from work at the Pine Lake Animal Hospital. “America’s Most Wanted” aired a story about her disappearance on April 2nd of that year, and her body was recovered on April 27, 1993 from a pond near Range Road in LaPorte County. An autopsy confirmed she was murdered.

 

LaPorte Teenagers Arrested after Theft Incidents

 
 
Two teenaged boys were taken into custody after reportedly stealing items from several vehicles in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

LaPorte police officers received numerous complaints from residents about unlawful entry into their vehicles. One victim gave police a description of a suspect and the suspect was located with a case in his hand that matched the description of one of the stolen items. The suspect reportedly told police that he found the case lying abandoned and did not know what was inside it. The case contained various cell phones, iPods and car chargers.

Hamlet Man Faces LaPorte County Drunk Driving Charge

A Hamlet man faces a felony drunk driving charge after an early morning traffic stop in LaPorte Saturday morning. Police there pulled a Ford Ranger driven by William Conner, 39, at the corner of Jackson and State Streets over at 2:36 a.m. because a headlight wasn’t working and the registration belonged to another vehicle. He was arrested on felony and misdemeanor drunk driving charges as well as driving while suspended and having a false or fictitious registration.

LaPorte Police Recover Stolen Vehicle During Traffic Stop

A Miami, Fla. man’s erratic driving got the attention of police in LaPorte Friday afternoon and ultimately led to his arrest for possession of stolen property when they discovered the Chevrolet Blazer he was driving was stolen. Officers stopped Oscar Elias-Ramirez, 47, stopped in the 600 block of Jackson Street after he reportedly cut off two separate vehicles while changing lanes. The New York license plates on the Blazer were expired and came back registered to another vehicle, according to the police report. Officers checked the Blazer’s VIN and confirmed it had been stolen in Miami. Elias-Ramirez was also found to never have been licensed. Drug dogs were brought in to search the vehicle. They indicated the presence of drug odors, but no narcotics were found inside the vehicle. Officers did reportedly discover several hidden compartments where drugs and money are often concealed.
