A few local municipalities will be receiving funding assistance to complete some needed roadwork thanks to the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. The City of Knox received $346,138.07, the Town of Francesville received $131,854.29 and North Judson will be getting $93,010.50.

A 1970 American LaFrance Aero Chief Fire Truck that made its way from Stark County, Ohio to Starke County, Indiana has a new home at the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department thanks to a local donor.
The truck has a boom that extends up to 90 feet and is fully functional. Assistant Fire Chief Dave Pearman said department officials are extremely grateful to Melba Shilling for providing this donation. Continue reading →

According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, 47-year-old Tracey Horner of North Judson was arrested early Friday morning by Starke County Narcotics Detectives.
The detectives allege that during a 4-month undercover investigation, Horner apparently sold methamphetamine on multiple occasions in both Knox and North Judson. Continue reading →
Motorists are reminded that work will begin today on the US 35 railroad crossing in Knox. The Mayor’s Office recently issued a press release to alert residents that Norfolk Southern will be closing the crossing for repairs and maintenance.
This closure will be in effect beginning today, Monday, April 23rd at 8 a.m. Depending on weather conditions, the crossing is anticipated to re-open on Thursday, May 3rd at 5 p.m. Continue reading →
The City of Knox will be working with residents and business owners to replace damaged sidewalks.
The Mayor’s Office recently issued a press release that states they will receive requests for residential and business sidewalk replacements until all available funds are used, on a first come, first served basis until the money to support the program runs out.
According to the release, the street superintendent will measure and inspect the requested area and approve or disapprove of the work order. If it is approved, the next step is to bid the project out to contractors. Continue reading →

Mayor Dennis Estok alerted Knox City Council members of some changes that will be made to procedures for Spring Clean-Up Days this year.
During Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Estok said there were some issues with last year’s event.
“Basically we are changing the format on that,” Estok explained, “last year, we went through a record-high 8 dumpsters at a cost of four thousand some dollars. Probably fifty or sixty percent of the stuff coming in was from out of town residents.” Continue reading →

The Knox Planning Commission members held a lengthy discussion over accessory buildings when they met Tuesday night.
Commission Vice President John Wilson said he found a definition for accessory buildings, stating that they are essentially any outdoor structure that is detached. This week, Knox Park Board members voted to continue holding Movies in the Park this summer.

The Starke County Public Library has a new director! Community members will have a chance to meet Director Kathleen Bowman next month when the library hosts a meet-and-greet.
