Knox School Board Approves HVAC Repairs

Knox Community School Corporation logoThings got a bit warm in some areas of Knox High School, recently.

That’s why Knox School Board members on Monday agreed to use Rainy Day funds to update some of the HVAC units at the school building. The board sought out different Types of HVAC System from Hero Services and ensured that it applied at least two of those systems into their school. The air conditioning units are reaching the end of their normal life, about 15 years, causing some interruptions in cooling at the building. Continue reading

Knox School Board Tours New Elementary Cafeteria

Knox-School-Board-2014The newly completed Knox Elementary School cafeteria and cooking kitchen were a focus of last night’s meeting of the School Board. The board meeting was held in the cafeteria itself. Tours of the cooking kitchen were given by Superintendent A.J. Gappa. He reported the elementary building project is near completion. The new lunch facility has a seating capacity of about 150 students. The school’s enrollment of 450 eat there daily in three shifts. Continue reading

Knox School Board Reaffirms Support for Programs

Knox-School-Board-2014With the meeting room packed with parents, teachers, and band and athletic fans, the Knox School Board, late yesterday afternoon, assured those patrons it had no intent to “do away” with any particular extracurricular activity in its 2016 budget cutting efforts.

Social media had been reporting all day that budget support of certain programs was scheduled to be drastically reduced or completely removed from the schedule of activities at the scheduled work session.

Knox Students Vow Support for Child of Crash Victims

Knox-School-Board-2014Students of the National Junior Honor Society have determined that the proceeds of their fund raising activities will be directed to an education fund for a North Judson student who lost both parents in a recent accident. Charles and Patricia Hill were killed last Tuesday when their 2005 Harley-Davidson was struck by a pickup truck on State Road 10 at 700 West, west of North Judson.

Culver Building Trades Class Finishes Project

  
 

The Culver Building Trades class recently finished a project at Bass Lake. Vocational Director Jerry Hollenbaugh said a beautiful home – and one of the largest the class has worked on – was built for A.J. Gappa and his family. Students from Culver Community Schools, North Judson-San Pierre Schools and Knox Community Schools participated in this project under the direction of Kyle Elliott.

Culver School Board Reorganizes for 2013

The Culver Community School Board held their first regular meeting of the year on Monday, Jan. 7, and the first order of business was the swearing-in of new board members.

Vice President Ryan Sieber and notary public Jo Ann Warner administered the oath of office to elected board members David Cooper, Ken VanDePutte, James Wentzell, and Mark Maes, before the board members made their nominations for board officers.

Knox Students to Make up Two Snow Days

The Knox Community School Superintendent announced that the students will be making up two snow days so far this year.

“Unfortunately the weatherman did not cooperate in December of this year so we had to call off school twice,” explained Superintendent A.J. Gappa. “In our calendar for the year, we have three contingency days and the first two will have to be made up. The first one will be on President’s Day, which is Monday, February 21st, and the second contingency day would be on Friday, April 29th. We still have one day built in and hopefully we won’t have to use it.”
