Knox Officials Seek Two More Eye Sores to Demolish with Remaining Blight Elimination Funds
With money remaining from the Blight Elimination Grant, Knox officials are looking for a few more eye sores to get rid of within the city limits.
In his report during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston stated that about $36,000 is left over from that grant.
Mayor Dennis Estok added that they can afford to eliminate two more structures and encouraged anyone who owns a blighted or abandoned building to contact his office as soon as possible. Continue reading

Knox City Council Authorizes Housing Rehabilitation Grant Application to be Submitted
A resolution authorizing a grant to be submitted to the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority was approved by Knox City Council members Tuesday night.
Mayor Dennis Estok explained that officials will be applying for an owner-occupied housing rehabilitation grant that is geared toward helping low and moderate income individuals as well as those with disabilities.
Mayor Estok indicated that the funding would help offset the cost of various rehabilitation projects including those that have to do with electricity, plumbing or roof work. Continue reading

Three Percent Raise Included in the 2019 Salary Ordinance for the City of Knox
Employees who work for the City of Knox will see a 3 percent pay raise in 2019, following a decision made by city council members last week.

Knox Officials Attempt to Secure Funding Assistance for Wastewater Treatment Plant Project
Knox City officials are once again applying for a Community Development Block Grant through OCRA’s Wastewater Drinking Water program to help fund an improvement project at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Kankakee Iroquois Regional Planning Commission (KIRPC) is serving as the grant writer and administrator for this project. KIRPC Community Development Planner Emily Albaugh attended Tuesday night’s Knox City Council meeting and presented some information during the public hearing over the grant application.
She informed council members that this grant application will differ from the initial one since they’re now permitted to apply for even more funding. Continue reading

Volunteers Needed for Knox Peppermint Parade, Planning Meeting Set for November 7th
If you’re interested in being one of “Santa’s little helpers” during this year’s Peppermint Parade in Knox, be sure to attend the planning meeting scheduled for later this month.
When the city council met last Tuesday, Mayor Dennis Estok announced that a meeting to coordinate volunteer efforts event will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7th in the Nancy J. Dembowski Center.
Estok noted that the Peppermint Parade will take place on Saturday, December 1st. He added, “That’s when Santa Claus comes to town and then we go to the park to the Santa Claus house and he greets the kids. We give out hot chocolate and s’mores.” Continue reading
Knox Mayor Covers Halloween Plans with the City Council
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok issued a reminder about some upcoming Halloween festivities at last Tuesday’s city council meeting.
Mayor Estok stated that trick-or-treating hours in Knox will be on Halloween from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. He added that there will be costume judging contest at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center once trick-or-treating ends. Continue reading
