The SCILL Center has named Katlynn Surfus from Knox High School as the Welding Student of the Month for May. She was chosen by the Welding Tech instructor, Andy Odle, based on her test scores, class participating, attitude, attendance and initiative in the welding shop.
The 10th Annual Miss Kankakee Valley and Miss South Bend Scholarship Pageants were held in Knox Saturday afternoon.
The winners from the competition will now go on to the Miss Outstanding Teen and Miss Indiana Pageants in Zionsville next summer.
Announced as Miss Kankakee Valley this year was Samantha Rife, of Star City. Samantha attends Ball State University, where she is majoring in telecommunications and also is a member of the women’s track team. Samantha has also applied for another competition.
Katlynn Surfus, a 16-year-old Knox High School Junior, was selected Saturday as the Hiss Harvest Days Queen.
“I’m very surprised,” she laughed. “I look forward to looking at all of the stuff with a new perspective now. I look forward to the bike contest every year. It’s always fun.”
“This is the second time I’ve been in this contest. I was first runner up last year and this year I got it.” Continue reading
