The Winamac Town Council received a race notification from the Friends of the Panhandle Pathway when they met Monday night.
On behalf of the group, John Bawcum submitted a letter which stated that ‘Frank Race Management’ is interested in bringing a race to Winamac on Saturday, July 4th.

Plans are in the works to extend the recreational trail that stops in downtown Winamac north of State Road 14. Friends of the Panhandle Pathway President John Bawcum told the town council Monday the eventual goal is to have a paved trail for bicycles and pedestrians that runs from Tippecanoe River State Park north of town to France Park in Cass County. Dave Bennett and John Bawcum from the Safe Routes to School organization told the Winamac Town Board this week that Safe Routes and the town received a $250,000 grant.
The money will be used to pave the pathway to the depot in Winamac, possibly to State Road 14 West. Bennett shared that he has been in contact with a company to do the paving. An environmental study will also need to be done.

Officials are connecting a section of the Panhandle Pathway with Superior Street to provide Eastern Pulaski School students with a safe route to school. A piece of land was acquired from a resident for the project and an easement for the project was granted. Stone is lining the pathway for now, but it will be paved when spring arrives.
