Several people received their sentences in the Starke Circuit Court this week.
Rose Martin pleaded guilty to Possession of Methamphetamine as a Class D felony, as well as a D felony charge of Possession of Chemical Reagents or Precursors with Intent to Manufacture. The remaining counts against her were dismissed, and she will serve 18 months for the charge of Possession of Methamphetamine, and 12 months for the charge of Possession of Precursors. The sentences will be served consecutively, and none was suspended; however, she can serve her executed sentence on home detention through Community Corrections. Martin must also pay a drug interdiction fee of $250, submit to an evaluation at Porter-Starke Services, and complete any recommended treatment. She was credited with 12 days served.

Two plea agreements were rejected in the Starke Circuit Court on Thursday.
A plea agreement was rejected for Jacob Hanselman, who would have pleaded guilty to Trafficking with an Inmate as a Class C felony and two counts of Theft as Class D felonies. The court would have sentenced Hanselman to two years in the Department of Corrections, and he would have been required to pay restitution for damages and items that were stolen and not returned.
Judge Kim Hall rejected the agreement and a jury trial will take place on August 1 at 9 a.m. A pretrial motions and instructions hearing is set for July 31 at 1 p.m., with a jury status hearing on July 20 at 9 a.m. Hanselman has until July 19 to file an acceptable plea agreement.

A Knox man was arrested after a search warrant was conducted at his home Monday.
Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department received a call Sunday about a burglary incident in the east 100 block of 400 South. The victim told police that a gun, a television and prescription medication were stolen.
After an investigation, detectives from the Sheriff’s Department applied for a search warrant for Jacob Hanselman’s residence at 309 Ruthie Dr. Apt. A-1 in Knox. Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall approved the search warrant. On Monday, officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and Knox City Police Department executed the search warrant where they reportedly found items that had been reported stolen.
