Three Arrested after LaPorte County Police Report Finding Cocaine, Firearms during Toll Road Traffic Stops

Three New York State men were arrested after separate traffic stops on the Indiana Toll Road reportedly turned up cocaine and handguns. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say Nikia L. Wright, 26, of Buffalo, was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of dealing in cocaine, after officers say they found a significant amount of a white powder substance in the vehicle he was driving.

State Trooper Helps Deliver Baby in Semi Truck on Indiana Toll Road

Delivering a baby in a semi truck on the side of the Indiana Toll Road is how one state trooper spent his Friday afternoon. Indiana State Police say Trooper Thomas Maymi was observing traffic while parked near the 52 mile-marker in LaPorte County. A truck stopped, and a man got out and ran across the highway asking for help for his pregnant wife.

Ohio Man Arrested after Firearm, Cash Reportedly Found during LaPorte County Traffic Stop

An Ohio man was arrested, after a LaPorte County traffic stop reportedly turned up a firearm and a large amount of cash. Sheriff’s deputies say it happened Sunday morning on the Indiana Toll Road. Police say they pulled over a westbound passenger vehicle after it followed another vehicle too closely and committed a traffic infraction while changing lanes.

Iowa Man Accused of Drug Dealing Following LaPorte County Traffic Stop

An Iowa man is accused of dealing cocaine and marijuana, following a LaPorte County traffic stop Tuesday. Sheriff’s deputies say they pulled over a vehicle driven by Marques J. Wright, 27, of Langworthy, Iowa on the Indiana Toll Road, after he allegedly committed a traffic infraction while changing lanes and then followed another westbound vehicle too closely.

LaPorte County Police made two separate arrests for drug-related offenses Tuesday on the Indiana Toll Road. Officers say Amanda J. Salmons, 34, of Cortland, Ohio is accused of the Level 5 felony of dealing in marijuana, after a traffic stop allegedly turned up a large quantity of the drug.

Wisconsin Man Arrested After Allegedly Driving 160 Miles Per Hour on Indiana Toll Road

Driving 160 miles per hour on the Indiana Toll Road landed a Wisconsin man in the LaPorte County Jail Tuesday evening, according to Indiana State Police. Trooper Dustin Eggert says he saw a Dodge Challenger Hellcat pass him at a high rate of speed heading east and then weave through traffic without using turn signals.

Two-Vehicle Accident on Indiana Toll Road Results in Fatality, Crash Remains Under Investigation

A crash between a semi and a passenger car on the Indiana Toll Road resulted in some life-threatening injuries and one fatality, according to an Indiana State Police report.

ISP Dispatch received a call of a collision between a semi and a passenger car around 7:13 a.m. on Friday,  January 12th. The accident occurred near the 50-mile marker in the westbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road, approximately one mile east of the LaPorte exit. Continue reading

Three Injured in LaPorte Accident

 
 

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department investigated a two vehicle accident on Johnson Road at the Indiana Toll Road on Tuesday morning.

Deputies were called to the scene at 8:29 a.m. CT where a 31-year-old driver from LaPorte was stopped at the stop sign, entered the intersection and was struck by a pickup truck. The pickup hit the driver’s side of the car, according to police. The driver and her children were transported to IU Health LaPorte Hospital. One child was subsequently airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Johnson Road between County Road 400 West and County 500 West was closed for two hours while officers reconstructed the accident scene as part of their investigation.

The driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
