Knox City Police Car to be Repaired after Accident

 

A Knox City Police car is in the shop to get auto body repair after a small accident.

Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith told the Knox Board of Public Works last week that an officer parked the 2011 Dodge Charger in front of a business on Main Street and a business owner backed into the squad car. Smith said the estimated damage is at $1,550 and it will be repaired.

Culver to Receive GIS Help from Indiana Non-Profit

The Town of Culver is prepared to move forward with some technical assistance for its water and wastewater utilities.

The community was approached by the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water out of Franklin, Indiana at their Tuesday meeting to discuss data point monitoring. Culver recently upgraded its facilities and implemented a utility rate increase to help pay for the upgrades.

Starke County Sheriff’s Department Adds Crime Mapping to County Website

Starke County Sheriff's Department BadgeVisitors to the Starke County government website now have access to information about incidents reported to the sheriff’s department. County information technology director Joe Short recently added the Crime Mapper tool to the existing Starke County GIS on the website. Visitors can click the crime button and view calls from the last seven or 30 days or can search a customized date range.

Sheriff Bill Dulin hopes sharing this information will raise awareness of the types of incidents his department deals with on a daily basis. Continue reading

Marshall County Commissioners to Consider GIS Request

 The Marshall County Commissioners heard a request by Chris Marbach of Marbach, Brady and Weaver – a survey company working with NIPSCO on the 100-mile power line from Burr Oak to Topeka.

Marbach’s request was for the acquisition of the names and addresses of property owners along the proposed route that would be obtained through the county’s Geographic Information System, or GIS.

Pulaski County Joins Starke in Sharing GIS Information

Pulaski County is right on the heels of Starke County in approving an agreement with the state to share its GIS information in return for $2000 to fund the GIS agreement with WTH Technology. According to Starke County IT Director Joe Short, the GIS information to be shared with the state contains no personal information, only geographic data.

The cost of the GIS agreement is only $1500, leaving $500 left over to be spent on the GIS system however the counties see fit. Currently, 86 counties throughout Indiana participate in the program, and Starke and Pulaski Counties are now a part of the program.

State to Fund GIS Agreement Renewal

County IT Director Joe Short approached the commissioners this week with an update regarding their Geographic Information System agreement with WTH Technology. According to Short, the agreement has expired and needs renewed, but he says the state has offered to cover the cost of renewing the agreement in exchange for sharing their GIS information.

Short says the state will fund $2000 toward the agreement for the next two years, while the GIS cost is only $1500. The extra $500, Short says, can be spent on related expenses to the GIS system.
