Fletcher Cemetery Association to Dedicate Restored Monument

Fletcher Cemetery
The original monument has been moved to a new location and is now flanked by a pair of new granite stones with ample room for additional names.

The newly restored veterans monument in one of Starke County’s oldest cemeteries will be dedicated during a special Memorial Day service. Members of the Fletcher Cemetery Association launched a fundraising campaign last year to rehabilitate the statue, which dates to the 1950s. There was no more room to add names to it, and the structure was giving way. Continue reading

Ed Hasnerl Salutes Long-Time Listener

A long-time resident of the Golden Living Center in Knox was joined by many of his friends at a “going-away” party yesterday.

The throaty voice that reverberates across the gathering area of the Golden Living Center each time I walk in the front door, won’t be greeting me there after Monday.

61-year-old Tim Crum, who, every day, stakes out the southwest corner of that room for his own, is moving to Branson, Missouri.  Tim has made this care facility his home for the past 37 years. He’s moving closer family members.

If you wait until tomorrow to vote, you will need to do so at your local precinct. County historian Ed Hasnerl says every vote counts, especially in local races.

“There have been many elections decided by one or two votes. We had a mayoral primary here where the winning person was elected by one vote.” Continue reading

For anyone interested in traveling to Wisconsin with WKVI this summer who was disappointed that the trip has been filled up, good news! Ed Hasnerl announced that several spots have opened for the four-day, three-night trip to Wisconsin and Lake Michigan after a larger than expected turnout prompted him to rent a bigger bus.

“We had a good response. Our bus wasn’t big enough; we got a bigger bus, so now we have a few more seats. We could probably take as many as seven more, but here’s the thing: if somebody’s interested, they really should call right away and let us know that they are interested and then we can save a spot with them, because I have to clear it with the hotel – there’s plenty of room on the bus, but we’ve used up all our rooms at the hotel,” said Hasnerl.

“Of course we need to pray for America, but before our prayers can be effective as they can be we need to examine ourselves, our lives, repent, and then God will hear our prayers and He will heal our nation,” stated Hasnerl.
