Pulaski County BZA Grants Special Exception for Moss Creek Solar

Another Pulaski County solar farm has gotten the green light from the board of zoning appeals. The BZA approved a special exception Monday for the Moss Creek Solar project, with Board President Derrick Stalbaum abstaining. That was despite opposition from members of the public, as well as questions about the legality of the board’s actions from both opponents and the developer itself.

North Judson-San Pierre Officials Voice Opposition to Proposed School Funding Changes

North Judson-San Pierre school officials are voicing their opposition to efforts to expand voucher programs, but stopped short of asking the school board to vote on a formal resolution. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin recently told board members that the proposed legislation would direct public school dollars to private and charter schools that don’t have to meet the same accountability standards.

Pulaski County BZA Approves another Special Exception for Mammoth Solar Project

A proposed solar farm has passed another approval round with the Pulaski County Board of Zoning Appeals. Board members approved a special exception request for the Mammoth Solar project Monday. It adds almost 4,700 acres to the project’s footprint.

Pulaski Council to Consider Tax Abatement for Confined Feeding Operation Tonight

The Pulaski County Council will take comments tonight on a tax abatement request for a confined feeding operation. Derrick and Abbie Stalbaum are seeking a property tax abatement for a facility they’re building on County Road 1050 West in Rich Grove Township. A public hearing will be held before council members make a final decision.

NJ-SP Sees Increase in Student Enrollment

The Indiana Department of Education does an annual student count in schools and their findings are used to determine state funding. When the average daily membership count took place at North Judson-San Pierre on Friday, September 15th, the ADM count was 1,031 students. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said that for the first time in about 10 years, the school corporation saw an increase in their enrollment figures. Continue reading

N.J.-S.P. Board to Remain Appointed for Now

BluejayOverwhelming public support of an elected North Judson-San Pierre School Board was not enough to overcome the estimated $15,000 cost to transition from the current appointed body. Members voted four to one last night to maintain the status quo. The most recent appointee, Derrick Stalbaum of Rich Grove Township, cast the lone vote in favor of transition via community committee. The Town of Medaryville has a new council member. Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood swore Corrie Hauptli in this morning. She was appointed by the Pulaski County Democratic Party Chairman to replace longtime council president Gene Payne, who recently stepped down. Derrick Stalbaum was recently elected president and was present at the swearing-in ceremony. Carolyn Hagar will serve as vice-president. The appointment was made in accordance with state law. All three Medaryville council seats are up for reelection in 2015.
