A LaPorte man was arrested on Sunday after reportedly stealing water service from the City of LaPorte.
LaPorte police were called to a 4-unit apartment at 101 Bond Street after a complaint was filed about theft of water services.
Police learned that the water service had been turned off to the apartment. Several notices had been given to the tenant that it was unlawful to turn on the water unless it was done by an employee with the water department.
The second annual code violation sweep will be done by the City of LaPorte this week.
Operation Clean-Sweep is a collaborative effort with the city police, code compliance and engineering departments. Those officials will travel through the city and tag as many junk vehicles and rubbish as possible. Inspectors will be specifically looking for junk vehicles, vehicles parked on the grass, brush piles, graffiti, missing house numbers, trash can violations and excessive trash in yards.
The City of LaPorte, in partnership with the LaPorte County Family YMCA and IU Health LaPorte Hospital, will be marking the inaugural Fitness Friday on March 30th, at 4:00 p.m. CT.
Everyone in the city is invited to join in a 5k run or walk every Friday afternoon until September with Mayor Blair Milo. Milo says this is part of an effort to provide positive community events that brings people out into the city to “enjoy some fun and fellowship together” while also promoting healthy lifestyle choices. She says that shorter distances will be marked as well, and everyone is invited to participate at whatever level they are comfortable.
