Our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week for this Week is Matt Hurford, a member of the Wrestling Team at Culver High School.

Matt captured his third Regional Wrestling Championship last weekend in impressive style at Rochester defeating opponents from South Bend St. Joe, Penn and South Bend Riley along the way. His Regional championship came just a week after he captured his third consecutive Sectional championship.

Just a Junior, Matt is looking to return to the State finals, where he earned a spot as a Freshman after placing second in the Semi-State two years ago.

Now wrestling at 182 pounds, his previous championships came at 189. His three wins at the Regional pushed his season record to 41-1 and his career record to an astonishing 117 wins and 9 losses.

Matt is the son of Michael and the late Margaret Hurford and will be featured on “Sports Talk with Nathan Welter” Thursday night on WKVI with a featured picture and story on wkvi.com.
