Our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Year for the 2011-2012 high school sport season is Marissa Hamilton, a 3-sport star at West Central High School.
Marissa had an unbelievable Senior Year which capped off an incredible 4 year career in Volleyball, Basketball and Track!
In Volleyball, she led her team with 246 kills, 39 aces, 191 digs and 50 solo blocks while make the Midwest Conference All-Conference First Team and Academic All-Conference.
In basketball, Marissa led her team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game and in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game. She was named to the “Winter Classic” All Star team, the All-Midwest Conference Team and the Academic All-Conference Team. She was also named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team and was named All-State in the Small School Category by the Lafayette Journal and Courier. She led her team to it’s Second straight Sectional Championship and leaves West Central with 655 career points.
But, it was in Track and Field in which Marissa made her most dramatic mark, leading her team to a Bi-County Meet championship and a second place finish in the Sectional, setting new school records in 2 events: The 100 meter Hurdles with a time of 15.44 and in the High Jump, where her 5’6” 5/8 leap set a new Sectional Record, as well.
She also got the Top Point Award in the Bi-County meet, where she broke her own Bi-County record in the high jump and also won the 100 meter Hurdles, the 200 meter dash and led her 4X100 relay team to a first place finish.
In the Midwest Conference, She also won the 100 meter hurdles, the high jump and was anchor on the first place 4X1 Relay Team. She was named All-Conference and Academic All-Conference in Track, as well.
All of these accomplishments, however, paled in comparison to her 6th Place finish in the high jump at the State Meet, the second year in a row in which she placed in the Top 9 and brought home a medal!
