TALL GRASS AND GOLF CARTS:
The North Judson Police Department has been issuing ordinance violations and warning ticket for tall grass and weeds in the Incorporated Town Limits.

“We have an ordinance that states your grass is to be no longer than 4 inches in the Town of North Judson,” Chief Doug Vessely said.

Citizens are asked to keep their property clean and the grass mowed, including empty lots. Vessely reminded property owners that the grass is to be mowed up to the alley and all sides of the property, including behind fences and outbuildings.

The Town Board reconfirmed that golf carts are not legal on town streets or alleys. The Board instructed the Police Department to issue ordinance tickets to violators. Chief Vessely added that no motorized vehicle over 50CC is allowed on the roadways without a Bureau of Motor Vehicle license plate and insurance.

“With modifications some of these vehicle can be licensed, which would make it legal to drive, otherwise they cannot be on the roads,” said Vessely.

The under 50CC requirement refers to Mopeds. A quick review of the law concerning the operation of a motorized bicycle includes that no driver can be less than 15 years old and the driver must have a Driver’s License or an identification card issued by the BMV. Drivers under the age of 18 must wear safety goggles or other eye protection and wear protective head gear or a helmet. Also note that a passenger may not ride on a moped unless it is made with a seat for two and an extra set of foot pegs. Keep Safe.
