The reconfigured North Judson-San Pierre Schools are almost ready for students, according to information shared with the school board Tuesday night. Director of Facilities Wilbur Collins says the original coolers in the high school cafeteria have been replaced, and a new rubber roof with a 15-year warranty is now in place over the high school office. Cooling Centers Available to Help Beat the Heat

  
 

Cooling centers are available throughout the area to help residents beat the heat. A heat advisory remains in effect through tomorrow night. The National Weather Service cautions heat index values will top 100 degrees today and hover near that mark tomorrow. Dangerous heat and humidity may continue through Sunday. Drink plenty of water, stay in an air conditioned room, avoid the sun and check on neighbors and relatives. Continue reading

Healthlinc Fair Gets Students Ready for School

HealthLincAn annual health fair will be taking place Friday in Knox with the aim of getting kids ready to return to school.

This is Healthlinc’s 8th “Back to School” health and wellness fair – which will provide students with basic school supplies and backpacks, but also provide them with sports physicals and immunization opportunities.

O-D School Board Approves Transfer Policy, Speech Pathologist Agreement

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation has officially signed on to an updated agreement to share a speech pathologist with North Judson-San Pierre. According to the revised memorandum of understanding, Oregon-Davis will cover 30 percent of the cost, while N.J.-S.P. will pay the rest. Continue reading

Starke County Plan Commission Updates Fee Schedule

 An updated permit fee schedule for unincorporated areas of Starke County was approved Wednesday by the County Plan Commission. No comments on the proposed changes were offered from the public. However, Plan Commission Director Terry Stephenson had an issue with the permit fee for accessory buildings, which covers everything from pre-built sheds to garages to pole barns.  Continue reading
