Ora Man Arrested Following Pulaski County Pursuit

Formal charges are pending against an Ora man who fled from Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputies on a 4-wheeler yesterday afternoon. The incident started around 4:30 p.m. in the area of 500 North west of U.S. 35 in Pulaski County when deputy tried to stop the ATV, driven by 43-year-old James Hurt of Ora. He took off and later crashed the 4-wheeler in the area of 100 West and 600 North in Pulaski County, where he took off on foot. Continue reading

The City of Knox is making progress in the quest to clean up dilapidated houses. Mayor Dennis Estok told the board of works last week the first four houses acquired from willing sellers with blight elimination grant funds have been torn down. After the contractor cleans up debris from each site, the lots will be seeded. Continue reading

Hamlet Town Council Approves Budget Cuts

Hamlet Fall 5The Hamlet Town Council last week made cuts to the 2016 budget in anticipation of their 2017 spending plan. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts advised after meeting with officials from the Department of Local Government Finance that the town needs to zero out its general fund cushion in order to avoid a state-mandated cut. Knox Schools Schedule Back-to-School Night

Parents of students in all grade levels are invited to a back-to-school night on Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 4 until 6 p.m. at their child’s school. Also, 6th grade orientation will take place at 6 p.m. tonight in the middle school cafeteria.
