Knox Couple Arrested Following Drug Investigation

 
 

A Knox man and woman are jailed on drug charges following an investigation by the Starke County Major Crimes Unit. Officers from the Knox Police Department and Starke County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at an Allen Drive residence in Knox on Thursday. Recent Rain Tests Knox Wastewater Treatment Plant

Knox Wastewater Treatment PlantEmployees at the Knox Wastewater Treatment Plant put in quite a bit of overtime during last week’s torrential downpour. Superintendent Kelly Clemons says it brought in 8.2 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. Of that, more than 7 inches fell between 5:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15. Culver to Receive GIS Help from Indiana Non-Profit

The Town of Culver is prepared to move forward with some technical assistance for its water and wastewater utilities.

The community was approached by the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water out of Franklin, Indiana at their Tuesday meeting to discuss data point monitoring. Culver recently upgraded its facilities and implemented a utility rate increase to help pay for the upgrades.

Knox Police Department Prepares for K-9 Addition

 The new patrol vehicle for the Knox Police Department’s K-9 officer has been delivered. Police Chief Harold Smith told the Board of Works yesterday the kennel has been installed in the Chevrolet Tahoe. It’s currently in Plymouth getting emergency lights and a radio installed and will be on the road by Sept. 1st. Continue reading

Knox City Council Approves Fund Transfers

 The Knox City Council Tuesday approved a series of transfers within departmental budgets in order to balance the books. The biggest cost overrun is in the sanitation department, with a total of $6,520.17 moved from other line items into the garbage contract, according to Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston. Continue reading

Culver Signs Central Dispatch Agreement

The Town of Culver has agreed to sign a contract with Marshall County to provide dispatch services to the community.

It was decided earlier this year that Marshall County would share the cost burden with its local communities and Townships given the cost of new equipment. A board has been formed to oversee the centralized dispatch service and determine its usage and cost sharing methods.

Monetary Donations Best to Help Natural Disaster Victims

 
 

The best way to help victims of the natural disasters like the Kokomo tornadoes or the catastrophic Baton Rouge flooding is to contribute financially to a reputable charity. The American Red Cross estimates flood recovery efforts will cost nearly $30 million. As of Monday they had only received $7.8 million in donations and pledges. Red Cross volunteers are already in central Indiana providing emergency services in the aftermath of yesterday’s tornadoes.
