West Central School Board Reviews Levy, Budget

West Central School Superintendent Charles Mellon

The West Central School Board members took some time to review the county tax draws from Pulaski County and Jasper County and Superintendent Charles Mellon commented that there was some excess levy.

“I think that’s mainly due to late payment of taxes from the prior years and then and I think the counties many times underestimate for their own protection. They’re making sure that they have enough money to give out when it is due,” stated Mellon.

In looking at the 2013 budget, the corporation will be taking another funding hit.

“It shows that the corporation will be receiving about $77,000 less than what we did last year, which is a positive. Even though we are still receiving less, between the 2011 and 2012 school years, we lost about $700,000 when the small school grant and the restoration grant was taken away. So, we’re moving in the right direction.”
