Winamac Community High School will be hosting the fourth annual Bi-County Choral Festival on Monday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the socialtorium. There will be a free-will admission at the door, with all proceeds going to benefit all choirs involved.

The event was first planned four years ago when choral directors from Rochester, Caston, and Winamac sought to introduce students to guest conductors with an afternoon of singing and educational fellowship. Caston Choral Director Michelle Byrn and Winamac Choral Director Patrick Schuttrow will be back again this year, welcoming Rochester’s new choral director, Autumn Dalton, who will accompany the performance.

Schuttrow said it’s their hope to share the musical evening with the Rochester, Caston, and Winamac communities. When students from all three communities begin to support one another through attending concerts, musicals, plays, or other activities, he said it’s a rewarding experience, bringing unity through music.

Throughout the course of the afternoon, students will work on refining music that they had previous rehearsed separately for the past several weeks, with selections including Handel’s “Hallelujah,” “Amen,” from Judas Maccabaeus, Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus, Ogo ni fun Oluwa!”, and several others, including a song from Les Miserables. The girls will perform a selection entitled, “The Voice,” and the men will perform a medley of ’60s hits called, “Wild Things.” Spotlight solos and ensembles will also be performed by each choir.
