Jennie Carter

The regular meeting of Drug and Tobacco Free Starke County was held Wednesday and produced no action on the status of Jennie Carter as Coalition Coordinator of Drug and Tobacco Free Starke County. The President of Drug and Tobacco Free Starke County, Judy Jelinek, said no action could have been taken as the lack of a quorum prohibited the Board to conduct business.

Another meeting has been scheduled for 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15th at the Girl Scout Cabin in Knox. Carter is still the Coordinator, and Jelinek said that the executive session is scheduled to discuss personnel matters. A yet to be announced open meeting for the public and press will be held after the executive session. No time or location has been announced for that public meeting.

Carter’s actions with the mishandling of funds has come under scrutiny recently. A check written to Drug Free on a Starke County Tourism account has triggered an investigation. Commissioner Kathy Norem has asked for financial records from the Drug and Tobacco Free Starke County organization.

the only thing I know this committee does is have the students draw placemat and hang red ribbons around the trees. With the drug problem in this county, this committee seems to have as much effect as the DARE program did.

Take them to the county jail and show them some of the meth heads.

Let ‘s get real. Not enough members for a vote ??? with all the press that has been reported on the funds missing and your board members don’t think it is important enough to show up. GET RID OF THEM !!!! It seems to be the growing norm if you don’t like whats happening just don’t show up. (or run to another state) Is this board a paid board ?? If so if they didn’t show up don’t pay them. If Miss Carter took any money send her to jail, What did she think was going to happen if she got caught.. As a member of a couple board myself when a treasurer reports at a meeting they can’t give a financial report that always throws a flag up or should have. I hope you have had enough sense to take the check book away from her till this is figured out. Its time to stand up and do what you were put there to do.
