The new Consul General of Mexico visited Starke County this week. Eduardo Arnal, visited with Starke County Development Director Charles Weaver in his Knox office. The northern part of Indiana is under Arnal’s jurisdiction, and he was visiting several counties to offer the services of his office with any questions officials might need answered.

Arnal said sooner or later the United States needs to have immigration reform. He said, “It’s simple. The U.S. needs our workers, and right now the laws make it almost impossible to enter legally.”

Weaver said the Mexican population in Starke County is small, but thought the residents here would be surprised at how many are working in our factories.

“Starke County has an Hispanic population of about 3.3 percent,” explained Weaver. “80 percent of that population are of Mexican ancestry. There are a number of Mexican population working within some of the businesses in Starke County. The majority of those workers are working here from other counties and then they return home. So, what we’re going to see as far as a population shift, I have no idea.”

Weaver said he is pleased to connect with the Mexican Consul General because of the possibility of partnering with industries in Mexico.

“The reason we see to work with the Consulate in Mexico is that should there be a change, we have another resource. Should we also have an opportunity to partner with industries in Mexico and our local industries, this is an avenue to start that conversation.”

Arnal also spoke of problems in Mexico including the drug cartels and illegal weapons trafficking.

There are 128 counties in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana that Arnal is responsible for providing assistance. He said the Consulate stands ready to assistant in any area where there might be problems involving Mexicans.

Weaver indicated he would be interested in having Arnal and his staff back into the county to meet other officials and residents.

Simple answer to Amigo Eduardo Arnal would be sorry senore’ hit the dusty trail. And an answer to our Government would be to do away with The North American Free Trade Agreement, employ Americans, and Buy American.

I agree with Starke Co. Native, there is hardly any jobs here for the American workers let alone to be bringing in more immigrates. The govt. will not do anything about the ones that are living here illegally that is getting the welfare and all other freebies. I check everything I buy if I can get American made I will take it before I get foreign. If everyone would do that it would help the American workers and put people back to work.

I also agree 100% with Starke Co.Native. We DON’T need illegal immigration, that’s why it’s “illegal”, we as American can’t afford the Social Services that come with it. The crime & gangs are a big negetive as well, & frankly, there’s not even enough jobs for Americans. I worked at Lobdell Emery years ago, before it moved to Mexico, & I know that it’s thriving down there right now. So, I too, agree with disbanding N.A.F.T.A.

How much is enough, we get enough of this proganda from D.C.
Charity begins at home and then pass it on to others, In USA the well is dry, politics does not seem to want to admit to that.
Seems like the illegals know where to hold a Cock fight, and it’s not in Mexico, the Mexican Gov. our next door neighbors, do not do
right by their own native people. The laws are on USA books! That law should be respected not changed.

Try immigrating to Mexico & see what happens to you. I can’t believe our government has allowed us to be pushed around and used this much. Probably the same idiots in D.C. selling thousands of guns to the drug cartels. How has this concept of our government selling us out progressed this far? They’ve sold our Fed.Res(1913), our jobs, our Stock Market, our land…& giving citizenship to people who’ve not earned it(for we’ve had a program forever), do not respect it..or us..& with unlimited benefits on top of it. I would’ve never dreamt of this 30 yrs. ago.
