I don't believe the current need for #34 to be replaced is related to the runaway bus as that event occurred many years ago. My understanding from the discussions at the meetings is that this bridge is just in need of replacement and by taking it out of the state's inventory, the culvert can be used in place of completely redoing it as though it was being used daily by general traffic. If it remained in the state's inventory, it would be the $340,000 replacement cost.

I have to agree with that last comment about the one-lane bridge being used on the "detour" for SR 23. That should not be used for truck traffic! We went over that a couple of days ago for the first time. It looks like it will be on the repair list soon too.

The bridge that everyone should be concerned about is the one on the local detour for SR 23. They should have fixed the "One lane bridge" so that it could handle two lanes of traffic before work on state road 23 even started. Especially with hasko enterprises taking their semis on that bridge. They need to patrol it for stuff like that. Their aren't even supposed to be trucks on that road let alone the bridge.

Kudos to the person who came up and pushed the idea to replace the bridge with a culvert, and certainly only makes good sense. The savings of over $300,00 of any kind is deserving of at least a pat on the back. The only thought is maybe the right of way can be protected with a guide rail, as that whole area is treacherous.

I am not a politician. I am just a citizen that is tired of not having a voice about what goes on in my own neighborhood. If you want answers, you have to ask the right people your questions. Sometimes it is tricky finding the right person.
I am totally confused.
You have a Bridge at the corner of 500 south and range road, closed off for months. That cause a lot of people to drive a lot of miles around because it is not being worked on.
Then you are working on a bridge for one farmer??
I think Betty you seem to have all the answers,
that you can feel us in on this.
Betty you must be a politican to be going to the meetings.

The county still owns the road and could choose to reopen it at some point. They took it off of the bridge inventory so they don't have to replace it with a regular bridge (the $300,000+ option). It is amazing how many comments are on these blogs and articles but still no more people seem to show up at meetings to hear first hand what is going on.
