Friday Morning Accident Claims Life of Francesville Teenager

A Francesville teenager died of injuries sustained in a car accident Friday morning.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputies were called to State Road 114 and County 1600 West shortly after 7 a.m. on a report of a serious accident. Deputies investigated the scene and found that 19-year-old Zachery R. Conkel of Francesville failed to stop at that intersection and struck the right side of a semi tractor trailer driven by 42-year-old Gilberto Alvarez of Lansing, Illinois.

Conkel was ejected from his vehicle. He was rushed to the Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer and later died from his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Section. Officers were assisted at the scene by Francesville First Responders, Francesville Fire Department, Pulaski County EMS and Monon EMS.
