The ISTEP results are in for school corporations across the state and according to the superintendent of the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation, the corporation did very well and showed growth in multiple areas. Lynn Johnson said she’s happy with the scores, especially the combined score for English/Language Arts and Math, which came in with an improvement over last year of four percentage points.

“We did grow in both areas as a combined English/Language Arts and Math. We had growth to 70.9 percent, and Math was our big growth area, we went from 76.7 to 84, so we’re very pleased with those. One of the things we’ve been working hard on is curriculum mapping, and it has shown over the past several years to be making a significant difference,” said Johnson.

Johnson said there was no real growth in the English/Language Arts score, which came to 76 percent this year versus last year’s 76.1 percent. She said the five-year trend shows a growth across the board, however, and the corporation is very happy with that.

The ISTEP testing was plagued with computer problems that caused several scores to be invalidated, but Johnson said that didn’t have much of an effect on her corporation.

“Overall, we were happy with them. There were some glitches with some scores being invalidated through some of the problems with technology. We had one student whose score was invalidated, so from the results we got, it didn’t really affect our data per se. Other school corporations had a larger effect, I’m sure,” said Johnson.

Johnson said the Math scores were most thrilling and she expects to see the improvements continue.
