Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman updated the school board on this bill during their recent meeting.
“Right now, my school board decides when we are going to school by voting in a public meeting,” said Dr. Klitzman. “They want to do a bill where you can’t start school before Labor Day and then you have to be done by June 16.”
Klitzman said this bill was introduced in the legislature last year and was defeated, but was brought to light again in this General Assembly. He added that it’s a monetary issue.
“The gaming and the recreational folks want to extend summer so people will not be in school so they can go out and spend money,” said Klitzman.
Dr. Klitzman opposes this bill citing the need for local control to be brought back to the local school corporations.
