LaPorte Man Arrested on Charges after a July 19 Fatality Accident
A LaPorte man was arrested on a warrant yesterday in South Bend after he was reportedly involved in an accident that killed one person and seriously injured two children in LaPorte County.
The South Bend Police Department and the U.S. Marshals service notified the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department that 35-year-old John R. Mikle had been arrested.
On July 19, Mikle reportedly crossed the center line on Joliet Road near the 8000 West block near Westville and hit 26-year-old Katherine Adkins’ vehicle head-on. Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene and two children in her vehicle were injured in the accident.
Mikle is facing felony charges of Reckless Homicide, Causing Death When Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, and two counts of Causing Serious Bodily Injury when Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated. He has also been charged with a misdemeanor count of Operating a Vehicle with a Schedule I or II Contolled Substance in the Body. His bond is set at $35,000 cash. He will appear in LaPorte Circuit Court later today.
