The West Central School Board is going forward with the field lighting project at the football field. Superintendent Charles Mellon told the board during their recent meeting that some activity should be happening in the project in the next couple of weeks.

“We should see some equipment moving in in the next week or two,” stated Mellon. “We have a pre-construction meeting scheduled for June 18.”

The plan is to replace all of the wooden poles with metal poles. Mellon explained that the wooden poles had been in the ground since the 1970s and were tested for safety a few years ago. It was recommended that they be replaced. Only four metal poles will be erected with the wiring to be installed underground. The fixtures and bulbs will be replaced to accommodate more energy efficient lighting.

Mellon added that this will be a more safer environment for students, staff and spectators.
