Culver Announces Decline In Middle School ISTEP Scores

Culver Schools Superintendent Brad Schuldt says their ISTEP results are in, bringing some good and bad news. He says the elementary school grades three through six had the largest gains in scores of any of the 13 middle and elementary schools in Marshall County, and more than 80 percent of the students passed.

Schuldt said that for four consecutive years, the elementary school has increased scores in every category, and a vast majority of students passed both math and language arts sections.

Unfortunately, Schuldt explained, there were decreases in scores at the middle school. He says while the school board is exceptionally pleased with the way things went in the elementary school, it’s obvious there are some things to work on in the middle school.

The school board at their recent meeting also adopted lunch prices and rental fees for textbooks. Kindergarten textbooks will cost $134, and 1st through 5th grades will cost from $120 to $127. Sixth grade books will cost $160. Because grades 7 through 12 use iPads, the board adopted a flat technology fee and are reducing the number of textbooks they will be buying. The cost will be a flat $125 for 7th through 12th grade.

Lunch prices at the high and middle schools were approved at $2.55 for lunch, and for the elementary school, $2.45.
