An open house will be held Tuesday, April 2 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Palmer Wing of the Knox Elementary School so you can tour the portion of the building that is up for a proposed construction project.
The construction of the Palmer Wing is in the fate of the voters of the Knox Community School District on May 7 where a yes or no majority vote determines the future of that portion of the building.
Superintendent A.J. Gappa said the open house is sponsored by the “Whatever it Takes Committee” who supports the project. The event will be held in the all-purpose room in the elementary school.
“That’s kind of the heart of the old building,” explained Gappa. “It’s connected to the affected areas including the kitchen and the boiler rooms. Tours will be offered to anybody who hasn’t been through the building.”
The open house is intended to be an informational meeting to address current building concerns, overview of the project and the impact on community members.

Adam Gruenig
Our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week for this Week is Adam Gruenig, a member of the Boys Basketball Team at Winamac High School.
Adam helped lead his team to a strong Sectional Runner-up finish to the 2012-13 basketball season with the best scoring output of his career, including a perfect shooting night in the Semi-final matchup against Hebron.
The 5-9 Sophomore started his most consistent stretch of the season with 15 points in the regular season finale 53-44 victory over Rensselaer, then took that momentum into the Sectional where he scored 12 points in a surprisingly easy 73-52 win over North Judson. His Capstone performance of the season came in the 74-56 win over defending champion Hebron when he led his team in scoring with 19 points on perfect 5-for-5 shooting from 3-point range and a perfect 4-for-4 at the Free Throw line.
His strong finish on the season gave Adam a 7.8 points per game average in his first varsity season for Coach Kyle Johnson.
Adam is the son of Paige and Brent Gruenig and will be featured on “Sports Talk with Nathan Welter” Thursday night on WKVI with a featured picture and story on wkvi.com.

Drew McKay
Our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week for this week is Drew McKay, a member of the Boys Basketball Team at West Central High School.
Drew helped lead his team to a major upset victory over Tri-County in the opening game of the 1-A Sectional. The Trojans delivered a shocking 56-54 loss to the Cavaliers in Overtime that avenged a 45 point loss to Tri-County just 3 weeks before. On of the big differences was McKay returning to the lineup after missing 8 games with an injury.
The 5-11 Junior scored 17 points, hauled down 3 rebounds and dished out 3 assists as the Trojans advanced to the Semi-Final Round. Then he delivered 15 points in a 37-33 win over South Newton that put West Central into the Sectional Championship game.
Drew’s comeback from his injury had started the last game of the regular season when he led his team with 16 points in a 56-37 win over Demotte Covenant Christian that broke an 8-game losing streak.
Drew is the son of Valerie and Mike McKay and will be featured on “Sports Talk with Nathan Welter” Thursday night on WKVI with a featured picture and story on wkvi.com.
Congratulations to Drew McKay of West Central High School, our “Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week”.
