Seeds Started for Starke County Inmate Garden
Inmates at the Starke County Jail are getting a jump on this year’s garden. Warden Phil Cherry says they planted 15 flats of flower and vegetable seeds this week. Indiana Gets Mostly F’s in Latest State of Tobacco Control Report
The American Lung Association’s 2016 State of Tobacco Control Report finds Indiana is failing in its efforts to reduce tobacco use. The 15th annual report grades states and the federal government on policies to prevent and reduce tobacco use. It notes Indiana has not increased the age of sale for tobacco products to 21 and has one of the lowest tobacco tax rates in the country. Continue reading

The 17-year-old boy was taking part in an intramural basketball game at New Prairie High School Monday evening, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. The Indiana Department of Transportation is now requiring rural planning organizations around the state to put together plans for each county they serve.
