Knox Board of Works Approves Services for Stormwater Separation Project

The Knox Board of Public Works discussed a proposal for services to conduct a stormwater separation project in the alley between Washington Street and Lake Street, west of Main Street.

The project will include installing a new storm line in the alley and abandoning the existing storm sewer connections into the current sanitary sewer. The lines would be rerouted into the new storm sewer.

Union Mills Sponsors 31st Annual Mill Pond Fest Aug. 25-27

 

A golf cart rally at 6 p.m. tonight will kick off the 31st Annual Mill Pond Festival. Line up for the rally will take place in front of the clubhouse at 100 Mill Pond Road in Union Mills. Food vendors, craft booths and a beer garden will be open tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.

Saturday festivities start at 8 a.m. with the Lions Club 5K and skeet shoot pre-qualification. Skeet shoot finals are at 1.p.m. The parade will start at the fire station and commence at 10 a.m. followed by an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Canoe rides and games will be available and the beer garden opens at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Tour de La Porte Starts Today!

More than one-thousand people from various cities and states will gather this weekend for fun and fundraising at the 16th annual Tour de La Porte walking, running and cycling event sponsored by the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte. 100 percent of proceeds from the event go to benefit local cancer patients directly. The money can assist with things like treatment, medication and wigs as well as in town and out of town transportation costs and even child care. Continue reading

Funeral services for David Little, 65, of Knox are Sunday, August 27 at 2 p.m. at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, with visitation there from noon until the time of the service.

Culver Town Council Considers Formation of Economic Development Commission

The Culver Town Council considered the first reading of an ordinance that creates the Culver Economic Development Commission, a board that can approve residential tax abatements.

The commission will have three members: one appointed by the Marshall County Council, the second appointed by the Culver Town Council President and the third appointed by town council. The years are staggered with the town council president appointee serving three years, the county council appointee serving two years and the town council appointee serving one year. After those terms expire, the successor will serve a four year term. Qualified members can be a county resident, a business owner in Culver or work in town of Culver.

Knox BOW Opens Blight Elimination Bids

 

The Knox Board of Public Works opened bids Wednesday morning for the demolition of 420 Maple Drive and 322 W. Spruce Street.

Three companies submitted bids for both structures. Mark Milo had a total bid of $17,840, Jackson Trucking and Excavating submitted a total bid of $18,998 while Chem Check, Inc. submitted a total bid of $43,000.

With an increase in skimming devices being discovered at gas stations this year, AAA warns drivers to be extra cautious about paying at the pump.
