Hamlet Council Considers Water Rate Hike

Water rates may soon be going up for Hamlet residents. An amended water rate ordinance was introduced during last week’s town council meeting.

Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts said the increase will better cover the town’s expenses. “So basically, a 4,000-gallon bill will go up $2.10,” she explained. “It’s just a 10-percent increase.”

The new monthly rate would be $5.43 per 1,000 gallons for up to 5,000 gallons, going down to $2.17 for over 15,000 gallons.

No comments on the increase were offered by residents during last week’s meeting. Final approval is expected in February.
