Pulaski County Election Board Eyes Equipment Upgrades

The Pulaski County Election Board plans to use money left over from the 2016 election to continue improving their vote centers. The county council last week approved a transfer of $7,700 into next year’s budget. It will be used to buy high-speed printers for the voting machines so they can run reports at the beginning and end of the day. An additional voting machine will also be purchased so the county will have a spare.

Pulaski County voters were able to cast ballots at any one of five regional vote centers on Election Day. They also had an option to vote during the absentee period in either Winamac or Francesville, as well as by mail or travel board. As a result, more than 58 percent of registered Pulaski County voters cast ballots in the 2016 General Election.

Election board members told the council all five vote centers saw a steady stream of voters throughout the day. Also the addition of a second early voting site in Francesville was justified by the number of people who used the location. Almost 22 percent of the ballots cast were during the absentee period.
