Celebration of Life Scheduled for Longtime North Judson Businessman

A prominent North Judson businessman died at his home on Thanksgiving Day. Danny L. Carpenter owned and operated Carpenter Oil Company, Inc. for 50 years. The gas station on Talmer Avenue still offers customers a full-service option in addition to self-serve gasoline and the amenities of a convenience store.

Danny also coached numerous Little League teams over the years and was a proud sponsor of countless local sports, individual athletes and community activities.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and spending time with is friends. Danny was also an avid bird watcher and had compassion for all animals.

He was a faithful fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs, and one of his high points was watching the latter win the World Series a few weeks ago.

Survivors include his wife, “Skip” (Barbara); five children: Warren (Rosalyn) Gappa of Prattville, Al., Daniel (Stacey) Gappa of Bellingham, Wash., Jeanine (Gappa) Huey of Brookston, Dana Carpenter and Jill (Greg) Bejes both of North Judson; and 14 grandchildren.

Danny was preceded in death by three sisters: Dee (Carpenter) Boone, Edna (Howard) Werling, and Pansy (Howard) Dedloff.

A celebration of life service will take place Friday, December 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at O’Donnell Funeral Home. The family requests memorial contributions to The Northern Indiana Community Foundation: Pioneer Cemetery Transformation Fund.
